90th Session of Minnesota Legislature Open

January 6

The backdrop for the new session includes the beautifully restored State Capitol building, as the finishing touches on the $300M renovation are completed. The 90th Session also promises to be one of the more interesting in recent years.

This will be the last biennium under Governor Mark Dayton. The GOP now controls the Senate and the House. There is a projected $1.4B surplus over the next two years. Last session, the legislature failed to pass a tax bill, a bonding bill or a controversial transportation bill. From infrastructure funding to exploding health insurance premiums, there is much to resolve between a newly elected Republican majority and Governor Dayton.

House leadership now includes Speaker Kurt Daudt (R-31A), Majority Leader Joyce Peppin (R-34A) and Minority Leader Melissa Hortman (DFL-36B). The Senate will be led by Majority Leader Paul Gazelka (R-09) and Minority Leader Tom Bakk (DFL-03)

Medical Alley will be pursuing policy solutions that advance patient access, innovation and economic growth.
