Event Description
Did you know that European Patent Law is facing major changes? The changes are of vital interest to any American company with IP activities in Europe. This program features expertise from both sides of the Atlantic. To be successful in European markets one needs to build a global strategy in preparing a business portfolio. Teaming with EU associates is essential. The BioBusiness Alliance of Minnesota has recommended to LifeScience Alley their visiting guests, Awapatent, from the strong biotechnology region of Uppsala, Sweden to provide an important update. Join this panel of patent attorneys to discuss the opportunities and challenges, and to strategize your organization's IP activities on the other side of the Atlantic. Presentation and panel topics include:
EPC 2000, the most overpowering revision of the European patent convention since its establishment in 1973, scheduled to take effect in December.
- new reissue-like proceedings within the EPO
- potential changes to claim construction and doctrine of equivalents
- client-attorney privilege rule changes
The status of the London Agreement, leading to a potential cost cut of 40% for a normal EP-validation procedure.
- The Parties to the Agreement would undertake to waive, entirely or largely, the requirement for translations of European patents to be filed in their national language.
The future of divisional applications in Europe, including outcomes of cases before the Enlarged Board of Appeal at the European Patent Office, and a comparison with upcoming changes in US patent law.
